Paradise between two islands

About two years ago, I was able to go to an island that seemed like a paradise is the middle of twoutriggero major islands in the archipelago. This island is a little known destination for people who love going to the beach. Its white sand and laid back environment is ideal for a beach-lovers who have grown weary of over-commercialized tourist spots that dot the archipelago. In fact when I went there, there were only a couple of foreign tourists and a small family of locals at that place.

Pandanon Island is actually a part of the Bohol, one of thecolumns country’s prime tourist destinations. It also around one hour away from Mactan Island in Cebu, the Queen City of the South, which was my jump-off point. Located in between these two top tourist destinations in the country, you can stay there, relax, chill and forget your troubles even for a day.

Riding a motorized banca (small boat) from a port in Mactan Island in Cebu, we reached the island at around 10:00 AM. A small chapel was built near thecottages unfinished port of the island. Together with some friends, we rented a cottage from one of the caretakers of the place. Once on the island, you can either choose to swim around the island or you can play beach volleyball. Its actually a small stretch of white sand bar with some small cottages and an unfinished guesthouse (this may be for overnight stays for tourists who may opt to do so in the future). It has provisions for cooking near each cottage and a place to change and freshen up after a day’s frolicking at the beach.

Clean and simple, this is a paradise in between two tourist destinations in the country. Like what I said, this is a simple beach that you can go to if you just want to relax and enjoy quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

But recently, I heard that the place is slowly becoming one of the pandanon islanddestinations of some island-hopping tourists. In fact I saw that some facebook friends posted some pictures on their accounts of their trip to Pandanon with their family and friends during the summer. I just hope that the caretakers will keep this new-found tourist destination clean and not too commercialized.
